MCRPD Aquathon & Silent Auction, Jan 14, 2019
MCRPD’s 34th Annual Aquathon, February 2nd & Silent Auction, February 1st
Our first Aquathon was held in 1984 and was a joint fundraiser for the American Red Cross and the swim team. The swim team was able to purchase a pace clock with the funds that were raised. In subsequent years funds were used to support aquatic programs until 1988 when the MCRPD board agreed to have all the funds go towards the building of a new pool for the community. Fast-forward to 2009 and the C. V. Starr Community Center opened its doors. Since the completion of the center, monies have been used to further the cause of helping as many of our district’s youth as possible, like funding the free 2nd Grade Swim Lesson Program, subsidizing the pool rental fees for both the Fort Bragg and the Mendocino High Schools’ swim team practice for the whole year, the CMC Swim Meet pool usage fees and to support other District wide recreation programs.
Why did we re-schedule this event?
We encourage our youth swim teams to make the most out of their own holiday fundraising capabilities, and we also want to make sure that the holiday swim meet schedule does not conflict with this fundraiser. We decided on this new date to ensure that we are not competing for donations or schedules.
Participation is welcome at all levels! Swimmers may swim laps and non-swimmers may walk laps in the lazy river.
Sign up at the CV Starr Community Center front desk. If you cannot make the February 2nd date to swim or walk laps, we encourage anyone that wishes to participate to grab the information & pledge packet at the CV Starr and work on swimming laps on their own or at swim practice. We encourage anyone to participate in any way they can.
Check out the fabulous Silent Auction, too! This is a great way to support a good cause and a great way to save some money on locally donated items, wine and merchandise! We have moved the auction downtown to our LocalMotion Studio at the Depot Mall for the February First Friday, opening at 11am and closing at 6pm.
Not able to participate? No problem! You can also contribute to this amazing event by sponsoring a participant with your pledges- and donations are always a great way to get involved as well!
Pick up your fundraiser packet and sign up, or drop off donations at the CV Starr Community Center
